Many say the weather in Hobart is great and that it is one of the most magical places to live (or visit) in Australia and maybe even the world. Hobart itself is the capital city of Tasmania and is the second largest city in Australia. But knowing about the climate in Hobart is good information to have because it will likely help you in determining which time of year to visit. And if you are considering making the area your home for all or even a part of the year, knowing what the weather is like in Hobart becomes just as important to know.

Just like with many other places in the world, the weather in Hobart is warmest during the winter months. There are 4 seasons in Tasmania, and the weather in Hobart particular goes through some pretty dramatic variation depending on what season it is. And because each season has its own distinct personality, you will need to know what Hobart weather is like when you are there if you happen to be planning a visit soon.

Summers tend to be more warm than hot which makes it a very enjoyable place to be when there watching the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race, which takes place each year. December and January tend to be the warmest months with February and March coming in right behind them. The weather in Hobart during December and January averages about 16 degrees Celsius but can range from anywhere between 10 and 22 degree Celsius depending on which month you are talking about. This means that you never have to worry about getting too hot during this time of year which could be the issue if you are in other parts of the country during summer.

The winters in Hobart can get a bit cooler also compared to other places in Australia. You won’t have to worry about the area getting snow at sea level  even though the snow capped view of Mt. Wellington may make you think this is a possibility, it actually rarely happens.

But no matter what time of the year you happen to be in this magnificent and unique town, you should be prepared for the weather in Hobart. Dressing in layers is always a good idea. This tip will help you whether or not you visit in summer, fall, winter or spring. By dressing in layers you will be able to accommodate whatever the weather in Hobart happens to be on any particular day. Obviously you will need to be prepared for warmer layers if you are planning on being there during the winter months as opposed to summer.
