Now the state capital of Tasmania, Hobart began as a penal colony. A site not to be missed by anyone visiting in Hobart, the history of female convicts in the penal colony comes to life as played by the actors in this walking play. As the story of what truly happened to women convicted and confined to this island unfolds, the audience is led through a park and on into the historic Cascades Female Factory where the women toiled long and hard under merciless conditions.

The Bonorong Park Wildlife Centre, near Hobart's northern borders, is open to the public and displays animals native to Tasmania like Tasmanian Devils, wombats and koalas. Just to the west of the city, Mount Wellington offers an energizing drive to the top with amazing views of the city and island. Sullivan's Cove, where the city of Hobart started in 1804, is a waterfront area today with restaurants, a variety of accommodations, and docks from which to take water cruises and tours.
